Junior Founding Engineer

Posted:

THIS POSITION IS NO LONGER OPEN TO NEW APPLICANTS.

We're building the next generation of insurance comparison for AI. We're a small, early-stage company with experienced founders, and we're looking for an early-career engineer to join as one of our first hires.

The role

You'll be hands-on from day one, working closely with the CTO to take ownership of technical work across the stack — front-end, back-end, and internal tools. We'll support you to work across the full engineering lifecycle, from scoping through to QA and release, so you'll build broad experience quickly.

A flavour of what the first few months might involve: contributing to our customer-facing app, helping integrate a new insurer into our platform, or running experiments to improve how we process customer data. You'll get real responsibility, with an experienced team around you to learn from.

What we're looking for

Your attitude and ability to learn matter more to us than years of experience or formal qualifications.

Must-haves:

  • Working proficiency with TypeScript (personal projects, coursework, or commercial experience all count)
  • Comfort with core tooling: Git, IDEs, issue trackers
  • Genuine curiosity and a problem-solving mindset - you like figuring things out

Nice-to-haves:

  • A degree in computer science, engineering, maths, or a scientific discipline - or a strong self-taught background that shows equivalent rigour
  • Exposure to AI / LLMs, even through side projects or experimentation
  • Any experience building or shipping something end-to-end, however small

If you're unsure whether you're ready for a role like this, apply anyway and tell us why you're interested. We'd rather hear from you than not.

About us

We're applying AI and modern tooling to make buying insurance genuinely better for customers. We're small and early-stage, which means we balance rigour with innovation — we move quickly but hold a high bar for responsibility.

We expect to grow significantly over the next year, and you'll help shape what we become. Joining now means getting in early, learning fast, and having real influence on how the company develops.

Logistics

This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days every week in central Cardiff, so please only apply if that's viable for you.

How to apply

Email us with a short note about why you're interested and anything you'd like us to know. A link to a project, a piece of code you're proud of, or just a few sentences about yourself. No formal cover letter needed. The first step is an informal chat over coffee (or your beverage of choice) in central Cardiff. We'll get back to you with a "yes", "no" or "maybe" within a few days.
